I'm interested in an antique Buescher alto which is missing the thumbrest. Any thoughts on how bad this is for a horn? Is it really expensive to repair and does it really affect the collectibility?

Yes, you can by a modern thumbrest for the horn from somewhere on the internet, but it will slightly devalue the horn. Not so much because it has a non-stock rest, but b/c it dosen't have the original.
