What is your favorite Alto Saxophone Reed? I've been playing on Fredrick Holme reeds which are produced by rico, and I want to look for some better quality reeds.

For me.. Vandoren Traditionals all the way. Some people think they're inconsistent, but I just dig 'em.

Sforzando,

I think you mean Fredrick Hemke?

I play on ZZ 3's for alto and ZZ 3's on tenor for jazz as well as blue box Vandoren 3's on tenor for classical. Cool

Uh oh, this might cause me to try desperately again to convince everyone here that Ricos are the best reeds out there, Twisted Evil but I've decided to stop that, and I'm just going to say, try different reed brands and see which one YOU like the best, although y'all know me, I'm a die-hard Rico fanatic. Very Happy

When I was a beginner I used the typical super-cheap Ricos...no idea how I could stand them in retrospect.

I use normal Vandorens for nonjazz stuff.

For jazz I used to use Rico Select/Jazz, but eventually I think they started making them worse. Nowadays I use Hemke.

odd for me huh because when I went to region band on my tenor sax I used the blue box for it but when I played I made to the final selection of region band and this girl and I were the top two but they chose her instead of me because apparently from what they sid I sounded like a smooth jazz sax instead of the classical sound wich made me mad. maybe it's because 85-95% of what I play is jazz but it was not fare because I was the better player even the judges said it but they also said they had to choose the one that sounded more like the classical style
