I am sad to report that Michael Brecker has died at age 57.

Rest in peace Michael. Your soul will live on forever in our hearts as the greatest jazz tenor player of our times. You will be paralleled to Charlie Parker and John Coltrane, if not held in higher esteem then them. You have inspired many to learn the tenor saxophone, inspired many to go that extra step further towards perfection, towards something that you acheived that very few of us will ever reach again. Rest easy, you certainly earned it. Hope you're jamming with Bird and Trane and have the best freaking backing band you've ever played with.

| Michael Brecker was a neighbor of mine when I lived in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. It's a small town just north of NYC. I used to walk by his home and listen to him practice. He also played at the Blue Note, where I used to work back in the late 80's until 1990, and he had a great sense of humor. |
