I know that the new Reference 54 saxes are supposted to be a new version of the old Selmer Mark VI. Are there any qualities that the Ref has over the Mark VI?

Besides modern keywork, not really. Some say the Ref's sound better, some say the VI's sound better...so we can call them equal. WHOA! Yes, I just said EQUAL! A horn EQUAL to the Mark VI!!! How dare I say that? But it's true _________________ JP

They are definately very close. I would have to say that I still like my Mark VI over the Ref 54 I played. |

Playing both, I prefer the response of the 54 and the tone of the Mark VI
But, that's just my opinon! _________________ Music IS Life
