Alto clarinet reed and alto sax reedHas anyone here ever played alto clarinet? Is its reeds about the same size as alto sax reeds? The reason I'm asking this is because I've found alot of good deals on the net for alto clarinet reeds, and I want to know if they'd work on my alto.

I'd venture to say no, considering the mouthpieces alone are like comparing apples and oranges

My friend used a technique very similar to that for quite some time. She played soprano and bass clarinet, and doubled on tenor sax. Tenor sax reeds are much cheaper than bass clarinet reeds, so she used them for both instruments. It worked well enough for her, as she played in high school band. However, I wouldn't recommend doing that outside of school in semi-professional situations. The reed may be almost the same size, but there are very small things about the different reeds that will ultimately affect the sound.

oh oh oh oh! Something I could finally answer.
I played the alto clarinet for sometime now and I found out that alto saxophone reeds do work with the alto clarinet. I'm not sure about the difference between using an "alto clarinet" reed and using a alto saxophone reed but I am 100% sure that using an a. sax reed for the a. clarinet does indeed work.

So, using that philosophy, wouldn't soprano sax reeds work on a Bb soprano clarinet, and vice versa? What about a sopranino sax and an Eb sopranino clarinet? I wonder if anyone's tried that.

Oh yes, yes, you're right. Our one soprano player in jazz band did use clarinet reeds. Although he says they didn't work as good as soprano reeds
