Borganis Overpriced?Has anyone here ever played a Borgani sax? If so, do you think it's worth $5000 ?

I haven't played one, and I think most people haven't. But honestly, how can a saxophone be worth $5000?? The Conn 6M, which is widely accepted as one of the greatest horns EVER made, is only worth about $1800-2200.

Murphy,
Sounds like you're stealing Jim's paradigm... just kidding!

No, we just share many of the same opinions, such as
1) we don't like selmer
2) or classical music
3) we love vintage horns and mp's

Well at least we all have one thing in common; I really don't care for classical stuff that much!

You need to try a Borgani, they are quality saxes and worth the money.
Think of the quality and individuality on them.
Best to try though.

If someone gave me $6000 and told me to buy a sax with it, I would probably go with the borgani, no question (or maybe about six 6Ms, ) . I checked out their website and they look like some really killer horns.

They must be very high quality. They are hand-made and Borgani only makes about 130 of them per year.

IMHO, Borgani saxes are the best money can buy. They are carefully hand-crafted, and are made out of the best materials available. I would highly recommend anyone who has the money to buy one, as they are well worth the money.

IMHO... Overpriced. Way. How can they be that much better than a good Selmer... or a 6M? Hmmm?? Heck.. they even make some of the Selmers look cheap! If given 6000 bucks... I'd go vintage shopping, or buy a few Yamahas.

Trust me, Borganis are the best. Check out their website: www.borgani.com

In my book, it doesn't matter if it's "best". What matters is if it's that much better to make up for the price. If it is, then I wanna play of those horns. lol

They are worth the money, I'm telling you! If you want to try one out, fly to New York City, and go to Roberto's Woodwinds. When playing it, don't drop it, because I think they have a you-break-it-you-buy-it policy.

Man, that would just suck, having to pay $5000 for a sax you weren't even gonna buy.

Yeah... If I dropped it... I'd just run... fast. Fast.

Man... they should make you sign a waiver and place a down-payment just to playtest one of those things.

I think they already do that.

I'm new here but have been on SOTW for a long time. I have a modern Borgaini alto and soprano for sale both in excellent very gig ready condition for thousands of dollars less then new. These are not the old Borganis, these are the modern pro handmade. The alto has a solid silver bell and neck. If you want info , photos, give me a shout at

WTF? You think a Selmer would be given to you? Yea right, man, if anything I deserve it more because I LOVE Selmer!!!!!!

My point exactly... The only way I'll ever get one is if it's given to me.

I have been buying and selling horns since just after high school which was was back in the 1970's. The two Borganis came from pro players who were each trying to fund the purchase of Mark VI tenors. The Borgani alto would be a keeper if I were not married to my Chu alto and Selmer backup. The soprano is too heavy for my arms after awhile and I don't like it with a strap, huge sound, great action, excellent intonation but NOT a good choice for a small person IMHO, my True-tone I have had for 30 years weighs a lot less..

I'm going up to Manhattan soon so if I have some extra time I think I may swing by Roberto's woodwinds and see the Borgani's. Maybe if I feel competent enough I'll play one and hope it won't break (I have the worst luck in the world). Just to see if it's actually worth the money. I still love my selmer though :D

Good Lord DON'T DROP IT!!!!!!!!

Ha, let's hope not. For the price of one of them I could buy and fix up the MarkVI tenor I wish I had

I never got to try the Borgani ...I ended up across the street at another music store. The street Roberto's Woodwind is on is an entire street of music Stores (The only other big name one is Sam Ash). I did buy a sax for marching band. An original Bundy with a plastic coat on the metal and rubber pads to play in the rain. My director likes marching us when it rains to "build character". It plays pretty well too! I went into 5 different music stores ..there was more selection on that one avenue than the rest of the east coast!
