Crazy Sax stories

I'm sure most people have some horrifying story about a sax, or other instrument you've heard somewhere. Here's the place to tell it.

This is my story:
While I was buying a horn for marching a while ago, I went up to the counter and saw a heap of twisted metal hanging on a chain from the ceiling and I proceeded to ask what that was all about and the salesmen being the cool guy he was told me this story; His friend had gotten off from a gig and went off with a groupie of their band (I didn't realise jazz had groupies). The guys wife then walked in on the groupie and her husband and she ran out in a rage. The wife took his mk VI tenor sax, threw it under the car and ran over it 3 times. The wife than continued to take the sax out of the case, and bash it on things, including her cheating husband, until the sax was completely disfigured. She left the sax on his doorstep the next morning when he woke up along with the divorce papers. The guy gave the sax to the shop because he didn't want to ever see it again

I loved that story, the way the guy told it was hilarious. Even though a mkVI got dismemberred, it was hilarious!

OMG

Wow....that would kill me....

There's a flaw.. unless the woman's super strong, if not then...
U see, the sax is still in the case when it was run over by the car... so it couldnt be damaged or at the most a few dents. If she uses it to hit at her husband, it would only add to a few more slight dents, considering the husband's not dead. If she uses it to hit on other things around, thats different. But it couldnt be so such that it became a twisted heap of metal.
But i got ur point.. Very Happy

The husband should say something like: "I dont mind signing a few more divorce papers with u, but how could u break my heart by hurting AND killing my tenor???"

Cool

Sorry for not putting it in the right place, my mistake

As I said, I only saw the evidence and heard the story. If nothing more, it was good for a laugh (or a cry!) =/
JPSaxMan

Definitely a crying story...I would have a hard time laughing over a busted up (to pieces) Mark VI tenor Crying or Very sad

The only sax I've ever seen busted up right in front of me was a bari that a kid dropped...I heard this sickening *thud* as I also heard something metallic coming loose . Thankfully it was somewhat fixable but it was still the principle...my God, I could never imagine dropping a horn. Shocked

Last year I had to play with my high school's vocal jazz ensemble as a guest player for some concert at the school. They sung a couple tunes acapella to open up their set, so I stayed in the band room and warmed up for a few minutes. I didn't have my sax stand with me at the time, so I set the horn down on its side in my case and went to the bathroom. When I got back, I got my cue to go on stage, so I picked up my horn and raced onto the stage (they had been waiting a minute for me anyway) with my horn.

They kicked off the tune (a blues), and when my solo came, I noticed that I was playing a half-step higher than what I should have been playing in; i.e. Db instead of C. After a chorus, I played normally.

I guess one of the keys on the horn got slightly bent when I set it down. Oh well, I don't think a ton of people noticed, since the audience was mainly parents.

Ouch! Painful!

That happened to me once, when I was supposed to solo. My E flat key was stuck, It was wouldn't push, so I was supposed to play a tune, with like 10 e flats so I was like, oh oh. So I was like a idiot on the stage, moving his knees and sorta dancing. Then I tried using 2 hands and I pushed the key hard, POP! then it opened up and I started. It was like it was planned.

Jazz is all about improv, and this was a whole new meaning.

My first Jazz solo ever (in 8th grade, only my 3 year playing sax, 2nd in the jazz band) was the feature of the particular song. Right before we started the piece, I had a post come off. It just came off! I had no idea that posts could unsolder themselves, but it happened. All I could do was stare in disbelief at my horn and hold the piece in my hand. The bari player next to me figured things out, and all he said before the solo was "Me?" I managed a nod the instant before the break, and he took it. The audience had no clue, but the whold band was confused.

So, my first solo went to someone else.

At the next concert, the band bought me rolls of duck tape and threw 'em at me after my solo as a joke. Again, we got it, but the audience didn't.

When I was in college, we had this psychotic french canadian tenor player in class. He had a real bad temper though. One day, he was in one of the practice rooms playing his Mark VII, working on some Bergonzi pentatonic stuff and got angry that he wasn't playing well. Next thing you know, he's chucked his sax against the wall. It was like an explosion. A bunch of the posts had come off and keys were flying everywhere. He walked out of the practice room, leaving the sax parts all over, went to his locker, packed up his stuff and we never saw him again.

ha, i hope you took the remainder of the sax and put it to good use haha, although it was probably busted beyong belief =/

Remind me never to hand my horn to a French Canadian dude Laughing

well this one time I was walking back from the football field after practice for varisty band. I was walking and the neck strap that was holding my bari broke off. So i felt an akward shift of weight and threw out my hand. I caught it all right. on my pinky finger. i caught it between the low C key hole and the rods. For you bari players you know how heavy it is lol and down it went and broke my pinky finger and twisted it to where it was backwards lol.

That sounds more like a kamakazee sax story if ya ask me Shocked
