Earl Bostic's razor bladesNow I work in a music store and yesterday some customer, an old jazzer, told me this tale- can anyone corroberate it? He was claiming that the spoiler used by runyon and jody jazz originated from the fact that Earl Bostic used to put a sliver of gillette razor blade in his mouthpiece to get... well, that sound Earl Bostic got.
sounded plausible to me- though it does raise the question -how the hell did he discover that putting a cut up blade in his sound-chamber had that effect?! any thoughts anyone?
