Jim Schimit's saxHave any of you ever seen/heard one of Jim Schmit's saxes? What do you guys think about the new fingering system?

Personally, I think it's a noble persuit, but I have no inclination to buy one. It seems unessesary to try and redo the whole thing. But then again, that might be what people said about Sax's new Bass clari design. I think it's just a fad though, and won't go anywhere.

I agree. I think the price alone stops everyone from buying one. I emailed him one time to just to see how much an alto cost(not like I could ever afford one) and he charges like $8000!

Yep, that sounds about right. I think I emailed him once for a tenor size, and he quoted me over 8500. He must have raised his prices since then.

Those are some of the coolest sax's I have ever seen! They look more like a work of art than actual playing pieces.
They seem like they are made just to play "more efficiently (Fast)". I wonder if the tone can support the price tag. I'd love to play one, his system of fingering 'intrigues' me.

One of those for that much? I'd have to hear one and play one before I made any kind of decision. Interesting key design and fingereing system, though.

Ya, this is where mass production really does come in handy (not that they don't still overcharge for saxes by thousands of dollars anyways).

If I just won a lottery. I'd buy that sax for art, it looks kool. Wonder how it sounds like..
