Members not participating?

I was looking over the memberlist, and 14 of our 27 mebers haven't posted even once? What do you think might be the reason for this?
JPSaxMan

Bewilderment? Confused
Thomas

I've looked at that myself, and I'm baffled as well. This is a great forum, why would they want to register, and then dump the whole thing? I don't know. Maybe you could send them all an email asking them what's up? You, as the admin, have access to their email addresses, right?
JPSaxMan

We as members and mods have access to e-mail (well, unless it's an unlisted address, in which case only Dave has 100% access).
CMelodyMan

Well, I can't think of what to say to them.

Dear Inactive Member

WTF IS GOIN ON? Laughing

No, not really.

Dear _____,
I note that you have been active since your time of registration. What is the reason for this? Are you busy? Or have you just forgotten about us? Just a friendly reminder from ______.

Sounds simple to me Cool
CMelodyMan

I think that'll work :D
JPSaxMan

Which one? Laughing Twisted Evil
CMelodyMan

WTF's goin on? :D lol

Just joking.
Thomas

Go for it, Dave. Well, not the first one, they'll take offense to that... Laughing
JPSaxMan

Nah, do the first one. What's the worse that's gonna happen? Twisted Evil Wink
JazZz

I got that email..
I thought I had been posting, but it turns out i've been reading the new posts every night, I was kind of confused when I got it. This is a great forum and by far one of the nicest and most open sax forum's I've been on. All the others have people who try to kill you when you ask a stupid question (which I do once in a while :P).
JPSaxMan

Hmm...yea JazZz, I've seen you around a bit. Dave, might wanna make sure you're sending it to members who haven't had activity in at least week! Don't look at the # of posts, but their activity level! Cool
JazZz

At least I know now that i'm not going nuts, I remembered posting on a few things, but I didn't remember if I did it as a guest or as a member.

Getting members to post and participate

Become a better attractant.

Tell us, the readers, casual cruzers, long-time members, about your experience and insights. Share great finds, be kind.

By the way, a good resource I have found is:

allaboutjazz.com

Years ago the number of reviews they had was small, but they persisted and today they just keep getting better. So can The Saxophone Forum.
JPSaxMan

So you're saying lax on the fact of participation? That's a good idea...that's what I'm doin on mine and I'm not goin anywhere fast but the bigger ya get the harder ya gotta work to keep it in check, so I'm takin my time. Cool

I am saying it is good everyone is focusing on inviting participation and while the forum is getting there, not to worry...just keep making saxophoneforum richer and deeper and by doing so it becomes progressively a better attractant. This is what allaboutjazz did. Though they are more than a forum.

Allaboutjazz expanded their base of browse-able information in the form of CD reviews, articles about musicians, regular columns, etc. So it became a destination for anyone interested in the music. I go there now to see what's up on a musician I am not familiar with or a CD before I buy it. The site feels like an active community. I also know it must be a lot of work for the people who run it. Also, I guess they sell advertising to help defray costs.

I appreciate that one of the major differences is that unlike allaboutjazz, saxophoneforum is by and for people who play rather than just about people who play. This makes it more limited of course but also much more focused and much more useful for people who play.

I am glad saxophone forum exists.
