My new recording setupSorry...I had to come to all of you and brag about my new recording setup that I just ordered through Musician's Friend. Here's the list:
Shure SM58 mic
Monster Cable S-100 XLR (20 ft. length)
Nady SMPS-1 Phantom Power Supply
M-Audio USB Uno 1X1 MIDI Interface (for my keyboard)
Planet Waves XLR to 1/4" Adapter and 1/4" to 1/8" adapter (so I can run the Shure through my PC)
Audio-Technica ATH-M30 Headphones
and an On-Stage mic stand to hold the Shure.
I use Adobe Audition as my software and have a fairly recent soundcard (but it's an economy level card...seems to be OK for now). I've been recording on a crappy 10 year old computer mic for years now and my keyboard backings were done on this crappy mic so it sounded really canned. And now my keyboard backings will come alive in written music. SO this should be interesting.

I realized that I needed a preamp instead of a phantom power supply so I bought a Behringer Mic100 Preamp and will return the phantom power module when I get it.

It's probably a bit late but I can recommend the edirol UA-25: http://www.roland.com/products/en/UA-25/index.html
Ive been using this for about a year now and have been very happy with it. It's particularly useful if you have a laptop.

Now that we're all bragging here, I'll tell you my recording setup.
- Apple MacBook
- Apple GarageBand
- Apex 420 mic
- Apex mic stand + shock mount
- Apex HP40 headphones
- Roland UA-4FX audio/MIDI interface
- Kawai PN70 elec piano
I got a really great deal on the Apex mic, as well. It's $190 new, but I was lucky enough to come across a used one at the music store for $60! And it works beautifully - I can't believe someone would want to give that up. Anyway, I also plan to upgrade to Logic Express, when I have the money.

Seconded. Roland definitely has some excellent audio interfaces.

I wish I had a new computer...my computer is sooooo slow that it either speeds up when I try to record at high qualty (44.1Hz) or slows down when I record at low quality (16Hz)...CAN'T WIN!!
