Favorite SaxWhat's your favorite saxophone?

Do you have to make me choose?
I just got done playing mine (my school's) bari. There is something mystical about the (that) bari. The low notes on it just scream "ROAR"!!!!!
I like the tenor for it's mellow droned out sound. Throaty in the upper range too.
Alto is a favorite because when I wanna go higher than the tenor I can.
Have yet to play a soprano... So can't answer that.

Favorite SaxYou're right that was a dumb question. How can someone favor one sax over the other?
|

Oh you'd be surprised.
My director hates the alto and loves the tenor and is ok on the bari. But he strongly dislikes the alto with a passion. So no, it wasn't a dumb question, just that people like me can't choose.

favorite saxI get what you mean, I'd have a hard time choosin between c melody and bari and probably soprillo if I had one. Is your band director a sax player?

Eh, somewhat.
He's actually a clarinet player (majored in college on clarinet) but picked up the tenor in his freshmen year in HS for his school's jazz band. I've played his too...Selmer vintage Super Action 80

Yoshi I think we were looking for more of a sound-based type answer as opposed to which sax for passage usage. If you like one because the music written for it is easier you got problems

Oh all right...
In that case I agree. I play bari in our concert band and the music in general is just SO easy! Yet people at playing exam time flunk it...amazingly how is beyond me.

My principal instrument is the alto sax, but I wouldn't say it's my favourite. I've tried alto, tenor, and bari, and the bari is the coolest by far. It just has so much power, and once you get used to the larger amount of air you have to put through it, it is so much fun to play. My school has this bari which is just awesome! Yamaha baris have such a powerful lower range, and the low A's come out with so much ease! This is the bari which is the most contested over at my school.
