Greetings from Arizona

Hello everybody.
My name is Dave, and I started playing clarinet in 4th grade. When I was in 8th grade, I determined that I would have many more opportunities to have fun if could also play the sax. I purchased an alto, and it was love from the first note. When I graduated from H.S., I think that I was a pretty decent player (H.S. level). For two or three years after H.S., I was able to find occasional gig, mostly R & R, which was definately not my favorite genre.
I was married at twenty-one, and was at the front end of my day job career (dental laboratory technician). I sold the sax to pay the rent (or something), and didn't play again for forty years.
Then, as a result of some casual conversations with other members of my church, we discovered that there were enough instrumentalists to start a band. I borrowed a tenor sax, and with a lot of work, regained something of what could be called "chops". The band played old hymms with an upbeat flavor, some modern gospel, some ragtime, R&B, old standards, and novelties tunes. We played once a month in church, and found many play-dates at senior citizen communities, assisted living homes, and fairs.
I am now also playing in the Chandler-Gilbert (Arizona) Community band, and having a great time there.
I'm still working the day gig, but have started cutting back on the number of hours, so have much more time to practice, and hang out on forums. I saw the notice on SOTW about this forum. I'm not here to escape anything, but to expand my circle of friends and increase my sources of saxophone knowledge.
It's nice to be here.
