Runyon Spoiler Mpc'sI really need a tenor mouthpiece and I came across this Runyon custom spoiler thing.
https://www.wwbw.com/Runyon-Custo...Tenor-Sax-Mouthpiece-i42448.music
I think this mouthpiece looks very cool, especially the idea of the spoiler and I want to get it, if nothing more as an experiment to see how it works. Does anyone think this would justify the price (if I go through the official runyon website, it's $95 + shipping, with wwbw it's a little more than $60 with free shipping!) This mouthpiece looks very cool, but I was originally leaning towards an otto link, or a hard rubber jody jazz =/

I bought a Runyon Custom Spoiler for alto that just arrived a few hours ago, actually. Keep in mind this is for alto, but here are my findings thus far:
-intonation is good (upper register is sharp, but I think that's just me, as I have that problem elsewhere)
-the sound is big and bright, but still full
-it absolutely screams with the spoiler, creating a sound one might want for rock/pop playing, but I wouldn't use the spoiler in a big band, even though I play lead
-since I got mine used, it happened to come with a Rovner, which works very well; however, I have no inclination to try the stock lig, which is lightweight plastic, and feels like a pre-production mock-up of a real lig!
-they're a bargain, especially considering that there are used ones for $35 or $45
Although this seems to be the definitive lead alto mouthpiece, I don't know that this is the sound I would want for tenor. Of course, I play a Tenney-blueprinted Link on tenor, and have never tried a tenor Runyon, so don't take my word for it. I would order a couple Links and a couple Runyons on trial since you can have four at a time, and take it from there. Also, since the Jody Jazz HR* (the one I assume you mean by "hard rubber") is a Link copy, and the Jody Jazz Classic is literally a hand-finished Runyon Custom, so you could probably choose between those two based on your findings with regular Links and Runyons. Or, you could do what I did, and buy a used Runyon off of the saxontheweb.net by posting a wanted ad in the mouthpiece section of the Marketplace (mine was only $40 including the spoiler, a Rovner, and shipping).

haha, cool thanks! The mouthpiece looks way cool, I think this is the one i'm going to get, I'm going to go try out some links tommorow, and unless I absolutely love them, like as much as I love my alto link, i'm going to go with the Runyon, the whole spoiler thing seems cool, even if it turns out to be a waste, and Runyon's seem pretty good overall.
