You are looking at.....

Pennsylvania District 9 Jazz Band's lead tenor player, Joel Perkosky Very Happy.

I got word this afternoon while we (the band) was in NYC via my friend drummer who also tried out that we had made District Jazz Band. I was like...YESS!!!!! Mr. Green

Then I got word on my placement this evening from my private instructor. I would have been second tenor, but the first tenor doubled on alto and therefore moved to alto...putting me in first place Very Happy. Not bad considering competition and that they only take two tenors. Cool

Congratulations! Mr. Green

Thank you very much Very Happy

Congrats! Oddly enough, Washington state seems to be one of the few places where there aren't disctrict bands, only All-State. When I was in the All-State concert band sophomore year (playing flute), we got to hear the All-State jazz concert for free, and that band was something else! It's too bad we don't have district bands, IMO, as there is only a single All-State jazz band, i.e. 5 spots for all the sax players in the state!

Excellent job, Joel!

Yea Tull, that does sorta bite! Then again, I guess considering Seattle and some of the best high schools in the country for jazz (Garfield and Roosevelt) are in Washington state (those two are in the Seattle area), the competition must be pretty tough...etc etc.

Thank you both! Mr. Green

Here is a map of the state, divided into the musical districts. Again I am District 9...not a bad chunk considering there are 42 schools in that part of the state.

Actually, people from those two schools never even try out for All-State jazz, since everyone in their school band is at that level, plus they play together for years, so the Garfield and Roosevelt jazz bands are actually considerably better than the All-State band!

Are you serious? Wow...Shocked
Louis Scuderi

Congrats!!!!!! Cheers Cheers Cheers

You can only imagine how many districts there are in NY, there are probably nine in New York City alone. Cool

Yup. Listening to them makes one feel so...inferior. Crying or Very sad

Then of course, knowing you yourself could probably do what they're doing...makes it all go away Mr. Green

I wish! I know one of the alto players from Garfield who graduated last year. He's going to Berklee College of Music on a full ride, and all his Garfield bandmates are at that same level!

Way to go! Keep it up! Cheers
