Valley Sax

Hi from the Shenandoah ValleyHello guys and gals. I'm Pete Phillips from Waynesboro Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley. I started playing saxophone in 1951 in Ashland Kentucky. I began playing in dance bands when I was thirteen years old, and have been doing it ever since. I graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music and taught instrumental music in Waynesboro until I retired. I still play on weekends with a group called "Blue Suede". We play a variety of music from the 30's to rock and soul of today. We are a variety band that tries to cover all types of music.
I have collection of saxophones that I have come across through the years. In the band I play a 1962 Selmer Mk VI alto and 1959 Mk VI tenor both of which I bought new, a 1924 Selmer New York Baritone sax, a 1925 Martin Gold plated soprano sax, and a Selmer Flute. Other saxes I own are 1922 Conn curved soprano, a 1927 Conn New Wonder series II nickel finish alto, and 1923 Conn Nickel plated straight neck C-Melody and a Armstrong Alto Flute.
I am one of the old time players that is really glad to see so many young players on this forum. I encourage them to keep honking. My passion has always been teaching and playing, with an interest in British Sports Cars on the side.
