I love 'em. I play a dark and it's awesome. Great tone, free blowing, easy to adjust... and only $17.95 at WW&BW! :D

LigaturesHas anyone here ever tried an Olegature before? I'm thinking about getting one, but I want to get other people's opinions first.

Well, I've never tried an Olegature, but I've HEARD that they...
slip alot, scratch the mouthpiece, stretch, aren't worth the money, don't play that well, make it difficult to change reeds quickly, and have iffy intonation.
On the other side, I've also heard that they...
look great, gives a (very) bright tone with ample projection, don't slip as much on plastic and H.R. mouthpieces, good response, and double as jewelry!
Here's a link to a page with Oleg threads on SotW:http://www.saxontheweb.net/vbulletin/search.php?searchid=56770
So, basicly, try one or two. If you like it, buy one. If you don't, move on in your search.

The reason the Olegature is slipping on most of the mouthpieces is because you're probably not using the ligature grip supplied with the Olegature. Check this article out for more info. http://www.olegproducts.com/olegatures-instructions.asp

I never really thought about the ligature on my sax's before . I remember asking my first teacher (he was kind of old) and his response was 'stick with the good old one's, the newfangled one's are nothing but junk'. That was the first time i was deffered from a new lig. I was playing with an otto link ligature, and my last teacher got mad when she saw I was playing with it, took it off and threw on my selmer paris C* ligature that came stock with my series III :D. It was a sort of random action on her part. I did recently purchase a rovner dark for my tenor because it looked cool. too bad the sax is out of commission or else i'd love to see how a different lig. works.

You have a Serie III alto or tenor? Lucky son of a gun. I wanted to get a Serie III tenor in black lacquer but finances kinda got in the way...that's why I got a LaVoix, otherwise I would have had a Serie III

Alto :D
I have a gold laquer finish on mine. I like the dark laquer finish on the reference54 better though. The black laquer was super nice but as you pointed out, it costs a bundle. I found it a little to dark for my taste, and the gold finish on mine is a little too light, which is why i love the dark finish, it's right inbetween.
