I'm an alto, tenor, and bari sax player on grade 4 (maybe 3.5 on a bad day) on a scale of 1-5 and a soprano and bass clarinet player prolly at a grade 2.5.

Well, this is a scale on 1-5... assuming guys like Joe Lavano or Michael Brecker are a 5...
Well, I don't know what the criteria is to be considered a "5"!

How do you figure out your "grade"? Do you just base it on the level of music you can play? Or is there some sort of test?

Both on the grade of music you can play with moderate difficulty and ask some educators on this; they would be able to grade you. Get some different opinions, then find the average
