Sax service / repair

Hi,

I have a Yamaha YAS32 alto sax which is about 15 years old. The cork is going and I need to have this replaced, so I thought while I was doing that, and seeing as how I have never had the horn serviced (it was not being used for many years) I may as well get a full service, get the pads looked at/changed etc.

But I have absolutely no idea how much I should expect this to cost, and don't want to get ripped off! Can anyone tell me how much it would cost to a) just get the cork replaced, b) get the sax looked at all over or c) worst case scenario, have all the pads replaced and some general tuning?

It may be that it's in good shape anyway, but I'd like to have it checked over.

Thanks!

Should you desire to have a go at replacing the neck cork yourself (which is actually one of the easier things one can do), you can obtain a replacement cork and instruction set for only a few U.S. Dollars from Musicmedic.com located in North Carolina.
Check out his site, as he has a large number of repair items such as pads, corks, teflon etc. and the site (as well as Curt) is very "do it yourself" friendly, unlike a number of the other woodwind repair supply houses.
