Saxophone standsHave you ever used sax stands? Do they work well?

I've used my director's sax stand (Hamilton I think...just one sax stand) to hold my tenor when I doubled. I've been thinking about getting a stand that holds an alto, tenor, flute, and clarinet. Might need it come time for a gig. Plus I've been thinking of getting a bari stand for pit band and also for gigging.

JP: I would recommend the LA sax doubler's stand to hold alto, tenor, flute and clari. All of la sax's stands are great, I have a baritone one as well.

I use the LA Sax combo doubler's stand and the single doubler's stand. The problem with the single doubler's stand is that the flute/clarinet pegs need to be bent outward so they don't lean in too far toward the sax. ??: Kind of a hassle...

Yes, i've heard about that problem. Is the construction on the single-sax as beefy as the dual-sax? I had a dual for a while, and I was impressed with it's strength. Impressions?

Yes, the single sax is rather beefy for a one sax stand. The tripod legs are very long, very very stable though.

Yes, I find the legs are very long on all of their stands. Still good though.

I have a Hamilton single sax stand and an LA Sax single sax stand. I find myself using the LA sax more...Go figure.

I have some sort of stand (got it as a gift). It's pretty handy, I find that if I keep my sax on the stand when I get home from school, I tend to practice a whole lot more because it's handy ( ). I keep my trumpet on the flute peg because it fits my trumpet. So I can just go pick either of them up.

Yes, stands really get you to practice more...interesting.

JP- You should REALLY buy a stand, not only do they make it very easy to access your instrument, but It gives you an opportunity to practice more. (to summarize everything said in this thread)

LA Sax no longer makes their version of it (I'm gonna try and get the one they have on closeout at WWBW), but Konig & Meyer, Hamilton, and a few other brands make decent stands...but LA Sax is the one I REALLY want! I hope they don't run out

K&M SAXXYFor the first time, I found the perfect stands! K&M makes a flute, clarinet, alto, tenor, and soprano sax stand that fits in the bell. My BRAND NEW sax fell off a $50 multi-stand, so I'll NEVER buy a cheap stand again.
Jimmy Scimonetti warned me about "putting all my eggs in one basket", so he talked me into just getting individual stands. It actually works better in a pit, because you can move all the instruments around. I've found K&M's the best for flute, soprano, clarinet, and alto. Here's where you can find them:

The tenor SAXXY works real good, but it doesn't fit good on my Cannonball. Jimmy Sold me the Proec MS562 (but it's not on their site). It too collapses and fits in the outer pocket of my ProTec case. Here's where you can find one:

I've got a stand, the brand is Konig & Meyer.
My teacher told me not to leave my sax on the stand, because it will get exposed to air and will tarnish(in Singapore's humid weather)
Anyway, why would putting your sax on a stand make it more convinent to practice? Don't you still have to clean it with the swab and polish it everytime you pley?

You wouldn't have to assemble it to play it.

You should still take down your horn after a practice session, unless you're gonna do a full blown clean and swab deal before putting it back on the stand. Then I heard of one guy who found a spider web in his bell after leaving the horn out for a nite... ...God knows what spider could be waiting for you at the end of the horn

IMHO, I don't worry about leaving my horn for a few hours on its stand. It really helps me to be able to sit back down and play it. Even if you left it out all day, I don't think it would be a problem at all.

A couple of hours or all day is fine, but overnight (which means all day and all night) might be iffy (but of course, this is just an opinion)...I'd feel bad because I'd think I'd be mistreating my horn (especially my LaVoix)

Yea, I know what you mean. Do you still need a stand? I'd be willing to sell my Hamilton, I never use it anymore.
|
JPSaxMan
|
Nope, I got an LA Sax doublers stand with the two sax stands and two flute/clarinet pegs and I got a special soprano peg b/c the whole stand was being discontinued...and I didn't wanna lose the only peg marketed for it for soprano.
But I'm one to talk about leaving my horn out overnight, it's been out for two or three days now... ...IT'S GOING AWAY TONITE, I PROMISE
