Saxophone Type

Favorite type of sax?

Bari, Sop, Alto?
Maybe...Soprillo? Mr. Green
JPSaxMan

I voted tenor because while I have fun soloing on alto, tenor provides three aspects to the spectrum of jazz...high, low, and phat. Alto only provides high with obnoxiousness Laughing, bari only provides low with phatness (if you do high on bari, I suppose that's ok but it's not mainly a high instrument), soprano brings highness but with a sense of tranquility, soprillo is...uhh...yea, you get the picture Laughing

I has spoken. Mr. Green

:)

I is glad.

Tenor/Alto. I just love hitting the low notes on Tenor, the fullfillment of hitting them. But I also love going altissimo on Alto.
Bariman

I'll give you all one guess as to how I voted.

JOY! Another high pitch lover!
kirbay

i like tenor but sometimes i overblow the lower notes and makes a loud screeching sound lol

Bari is by far the best there is. Its like the cello of the wood winds and its the foundation of most jazz quartets and sax quartets.

I'm a tenor specialist. Mr. Green

ugh...

we HAVE to choose???

Oh, gosh.

I voted tenor because so many of my favorite solos are tenor, it was tenor that I originally wanted back when I started up with clarinet in 5th grade, but the teacher told my parents to start me on clarinet. I love them all, clarinet, oboe, sax-- REALLY love the contrabass, if you haven't checked out the Nuclear Whales, you gotta.

I voted tenor as it has THE sound that drew me to the sax in the first place. Growing up into sax playing in the mid-70's (and watching a lot of cartoons) put me onto that famous tenor sax solo in "The Pink Panther". It's still one of the coolest tunes ever! Yes, from there I've branched out and have the 4 main saxes now...but I feel like I'm cheating on my tenor when i play the others. I now have 4 magnificent mistresses and I'm very happy with each one. But like a good polygamist, I have to go back to my first love...the tenor.
