sight reading

I started band as a freshman in high school the first chair tenor helped me learn to play along with the band and memorize songs. Now I struggle with being a very poor sight-reader and trying to teach my friend to play has amplified the problem.

We need advise on how to improve our poor skill level so far the books we have are not helping much.

1. Get a teacher to help
2. Just...read
3. Get various books like, "The Rhythm Bible" and other sight-singing books that will help in sight-reading.

The key to learning sight-reading is to just keep doing it, correcting your mistakes where necessary, and keep on going. Don't get hung up on errors, and just do it. But have fun...I'm a so-so sight reader, sometimes my fingers get caught up in the fast runs but other than that you'll get it fine!
