The Case Project: Baritone SaxHello all,
So, after years of frustration with inadequate cases to fully protect my valuable musical instruments, I have become fed up. I'm sure you all can my frustration.
Thus, I have designed and have started work on a custom baritone sax case, which will serve as heavy protection for any of my low Bb baritones. Though I am only to the construction of the outer shell, I thought I would post some pics of my progress.
This case is designed for heavy impact resistance, and can take a direct sledge hammer hit and not get even close to the horn. Theoretically, You would need several swings from a maw (sledge/axe hybrid) to get past all of the measures I will put in place, including 1" White Pine boarding for the outer shell, a 1.5" thick sheet of compression foam, another layer of 1" pine, and finally the ASP styrofoam that suppends the horn itself, and is itself wraped in .5" foam. Whew. Take that UPS.
Anyway, I thought I would chronicle my progress here. Also, I have decided to use a black vinyl for the outside covering, but am stuck on the color of the inside fabric I should use. Any ideas? I will be using silver fittings.
And now, the pics. Oh yeah, the square holes you see are where reccessed handles will be. And yes, there is a method to my maddness. Enjoy!

LS: Yes, I have seen Helen's story before. But to be honest, this is a totally different approach. Thanks anyway.
Hmmm, green. Maybe a dark green, kinda olive maybe?

2 days as of the taking of those pictures. It goes fast when you have everything you need. Of course the planning took much longer. On and off two weeks probably.

That's going to be a freaking heavy case man. But considering what's it's protecting, that's probably okay. I just wouldn't want to have to lug that thing around for a while.

Well, yes, but I don't plan to use it as a gigging case either. It is desiged to protect during travel, and also from the elements.
Sorry, no new pics, work is slow, and I have very little time these days.
