What type of neck do you have?I knoww of some people who buy a sax, and then get a different neck for it to alterc its sound. Do any of you do that? If so, what type of neck do you have(silver, bare brass, laquer)?

Nice.
I've got just a regular stock super 20 neck (overslung, not sterling-silver). I want a solid copper gloger or barone, though.

I have the standard neck with my series III. I want the red brass neck to make it darker, it looks super cool and has the series III insription on the base!

Most silver necks accomplish a bright sound.
JazZz, I saw a Serie III on USA Horn that had a Serie III inscription in the neck...and I thought, wtf? Are they using a II neck on it b/c as far as I know the only neck that had an inscription on it was the II (and the Reference horns have their lil thing too)? Hmm...weird ??:

I have a Series III that I use a solid silver Mark VI neck on. It actually plays slightly darker with this set up. I have a Series III red copper neck as well, it enhanced the tone and gave more complex overtones, not as good in the altisimo as the old Mark VI.
It is my understanding that since silver is a softer metal then brass it will resonate slower and thus be darker, copper is also softer then brass so the same would hold true. I would guess that the red copper neck is Selmers answer to the common belief that the III is a bright horn. I personaly don't think it is but everyone has an opinion on these things.
There is not much visual diference in colour between the red copper(RC) and the regular neck, my horn has a clear finish. The RC neck has a lighter neck brace then the stock neck ... it is like a piece of drill rod. The RC neck also has a ring at the tip of the neck in front of the cork, this feature is stock on the Mark VI necks ... repair tech's say this ring has a positive effect on a horns tone. I had a Ponzol neck but unloaded it because I didn't notice any positive changes. I just recently picked up a nice minty Mark VI brass neck .... don't feel the urge to try it though as I am happy the way my horn is sounding right now.
The Series III has the III stamped / embossed into the neck just above the shank. Seems as though Mark VI neecks and SBA necks fit on the III ... or the shank diameter is very close. The Mark VII and Series II have diferent neck lenght and I have never tried one on a III but I would expect tuning problems if tried.
When looking at silver Selmer necks there is a difference in quality between a Paris Selmer made neck and a US Selmer made silver neck, they work but are really Bundy. Selmer Paris is now making solid silver III necks .
