Why??

why are alto, tenor, and bari saxes curved, but soprano's not Confused??: WTF ??
Doc Frazier

I have a curved soprano
Bariman

A curved soprano has very cramped keywork, and it is easier to manufacturer a staright horn.

Plus I do believe the two sound somewhat different, maybe? Confused??: ...kinda goin out on a limb with that one.
Bariman

Very true. The sound achieved on a curvy is much sweeter, while a straight horn usually yields a more brighter and edgier tone.

Yea, if you listen to Dave Koz, he plays on both a straight (Yamaha YSS-62 silver) and a curved (Conn 1912 I think) soprano, and I can hear the difference between the two! Cool

Thanks for the help guys. I'll have to try to listen to both the curved and straight soprano..
