In your jazz band, how many people were in it, and at which instruments? At the jazz honor band we had 6 trumpets, a bass guitar, 6 saxes( 4 altos, 2 tenors including me :D , and a bari, percussion, 5 trombones, and a piano. At my school jazz band, there was 2 saxes, both altos, I was lead alto, 3 trumpets, two trombones, percussion, and a piano.

This year we have
Three altos
Two tenors
One bari
8-9 trumpets
One trombone
Three drummers
Two piano/base players
Maybe a guitar player
That's bout it. I think the director should cut a few trumpets because they SUCK!
The two altos need improvement, the one alto has been doing it for a while but will be new to it in jazz band. My second tenor needs work for he'll be doin sax for only two years, and his ego gets in the way but that's all right...he'll get put in his place one day. _________________ JP

Only thing we have is District and All-State jazz band and I might do District next year...wanted to do All-State but seemed pointless considering I didn't even do District. _________________ JP

This last year, the Jazz 1 setup was as follows:
- 2 Alto saxos (1 was me, of course)
- 2 Tenor saxos
- 1 Bari saxo
- 4 tromboners
- 4 trumpeters
- 1 guitarist
- 1 pianist
- 1 bassist
- 2 drummers
Over the past 2 years, Jazz 1 has steadily worked its way to rock bottom. Almost all the good players have graduated, and I only see a few people with hope for next year. Our trumpeters are sheepish, quiet people, which just puts the stereotype to s***. The one trumpet who could actually hit a high C has graduated this year, too. It will be a sax-dominated band next year.
I fear for the future of the music program at my school... _________________ Thomas Hay

Last year's setup was something like
Seven saxes:
Two altos
Three tenors (one on first, two on second)
Two Baris (but it was mainly me, as the other didn't show up)
Seven 'bones: Two on each except for 1st.
Six trumpets: Two on 2nd and 4th
Three pianists, one bass, two 'rummers.
That was our top jazz band. This is what it looks like this year.
Seven saxes: three altos, two tenors, two baris (i'd rather there be 1 bari and three tenors)
Five 'bones
Five trumpets
2 pianists, one bass, two 'rummers
We haven't had guitar for like three years. _________________ NEW SAXOPHONE!!!

here it goes:
2 Clarinets (or Crumpets as we call them, since they play trumpet parts)
2 altos
2 tenors
3 bones
4 trumpets
1 Bass guitar
1 piano
2 percs (set and either auxilliary or vibes)
That's right, no Bari saxes. Strange, since one of the alto players is (probably) going to be the TX All-State Jazz bari. Go figure. _________________ Tenor Sax - Class of 2006
