I'm not a band geek, at least at school I'm not. I only show my band geek side to you guys. I was wondering, what really defines a band geek, because I'm not sure if I am or not?

I am a living, breathing example of a band geek.
I have two "I'm with the band" shirts, I eat breathe sleep and drink music to everyone I come in contact with (if they start getting annoyed I'll stop, but for the most part music is my vocabulary), I count down the days till the next band rehersal or when I can play my bari. I get excited about marching band and all other band activities.
There ya have it. _________________ JP

After reading all the instruments you play, you're definitely a band geek tenorsaxman. How do you manage to play trumpet without messing up your sax embouchere? _________________

CMelody Man, When I played trumpet, I should have practiced sax more. But I don't have my trumpet any more, so I can practice sax as much as I please. Oh,and I didn't think it messed up my embouchre because I was so use to playing brass and woodwinds. But when I played high register on trumpet, it seemed like I could play better on sax and especially altisimo range on clarinet _________________ Tenorsaxman!

I play trumpet, and it doesn't mess up my ombachure really at all, if anything it has actually helped tighten up my corners. On the other hand, the trumpet players tell me that when I play trumpet, it looks like i'm trying to play sax because when I go higher, instead of putting more air into the thing, I started trying to lip higher like it was a reed and I end up ultimitly losing the note. With practice though, it doesn't really affect anything and the lessons you learn on one help transfer over to the other instrument so you learn twice as fast. |

Well, my BD always told me differently, but I guess I'll take you guy's word for it, although it's not like I'm about to play trumpet or anything though... _________________

Yeah, that's just one of those crazy myths among musicians. If you play a woodwind and a brass instrument, the two embouchures don't affect each other in a bad way.
Back on topic. I do act band geekish at school, but I can keep it concealed upon demand. Some of my older brother's friends don't even know that I play an instrument... I do tell band jokes to my friends all the time, and they often get annoyed by it. Sometimes I do hit upon a good joke, and they actually laugh, instead of being their general pansy-ish selves... :P :D _________________ Thomas Hay

This is how crazy it's got. I show up to school almost an hour before the bell rings, and I sit in the band room. My schedule this year is either band or music, or a college class. On the weekends, my friends and I get together to play out of the Aebersold books.
After school gets out, I'm in the band room for about an hour. During "Oppurtunity Period", we're allowed to go to another classroom, and the teachers don't even ask for a pass, b/c they know I'm going to the band room.
Oh yea, I call the field the "Marching Band Field", rather than the football field. _________________ NEW SAXOPHONE!!!

| well, i would say that i was a band geek also. I cnt help it, in one way or another my life revolves around music, too a point of which my non-musical friends get annoyed with me for talking about stuff they don't get, but i don't hink it to be a bad thing though! |

I would to say I'm a band geek. I take as many classes as I can with the band director, as I am really good friends with him and just about everytime I have a good 1/2 hour free I'm practicing in there.
Nice avatar Kym!
