Ha, I totally agree..
But about the ref.54 for a begginer..:
I live in a pretty afluent area, and in the beggining of 5th grade everyone started band. I had already been playing for 2 years (because I was just so ahead of the curve ). Anyway, at christmas, one kid recieved a Series III with gold plating after only playing for 4-5 months. It was crazy! He had no appreciation for it, and he quit alto that summer to play trumpet, shows you how crazy people can be. I'll never get people like that.

At least where I live, most people who buy their kids cheap new horns when they could buy a much better used one (or, even better yet, a used student one for less) are not themselves musicians, and simply assume shiny=good, used=bad. In my opinion, the most logical (and often, economical) course of action is to rent a Yamaha 23 (the best student horn, IMO) until the student is sure they want to continue, then decide on a better instrument. But frankly, there are a lot of kids who would be much better off with a 23 and some lessons. _________________ My sound clips. |

I started off on a 23 ($1400), and I just wish the parents would have invested in a pro instead.... _________________ Music IS Life

| There was a child in a elementary school I knew and before he even knew how to play. He got a Keilwerth SX-90R sax and has quited and has switched to playing clarinet. I wonder what clarinet he ends up getting. The sax got donated to the skool. |
