One word for cost: a lot
Not worth it, unless you try out a bunch of horns then find a Mark VI that blows away the rest. They usually run anywhere from $4,000-$8,000+ depending on serial#, condition, and place of assembly (London/Elkhart or Paris).
So...good luck _________________ JP

They usually only cost as much as new pro horns unless it's a really flashy or special one. Less really, for the average Mark VI missing some lacquer (which shouldn't be a problem).
You don't want to look for a Mark VI on eBay unless you have plenty of dough and won't cry if you lose.
...but, my advice is not to just up and decide to get a Mark VI. If you find one and play it and think to yourself "Wow...this is the best sounding horn ever", then sure, get it, but the same applies to any horn. Try a bunch out, pick your favorite. |
