I am a student of the instrument. Heard a man playing a soprano in a park in San Francisco one day, on a park bench a long time ago.
I was walking by on the sidewalk. Slowed up to listen. Stopped to listen. Kept getting closer. Finally sat down next to him and just listened. He wasn't 'great' but that didn't matter. He was authentic. The sound coming out of that horn was a psychic transportation system...and this was before Star Trek mind you. Ha!
I think that soprano sound permanently bent my neural pathways. Just could not get it out of my head! Then realized, 'Of course!' Get more of it. Then find myself buying a Yanagisawa S991 and spending a bleeding fortune on mouthpieces and reeds, to say nothing of ligatures before finally finding my combination.
It's a long road, but so's a good glass of wine. One of these days I may actually be able to play with you guys. Until then it's,....well, you know, keep the cockroaches out of the house with the scales. Just glad the neighbors don't mind and I have good sound insulation. joke.
Sure love that soprano sound. Heard Dave Liebman a week or so ago live in San Francisco. Whew! Something to aspire to.
I do have some questions so will be looking around the forum for appropriate places to ask them.
Oh, my handle, -88-, yeah....piano.
