What's the difference between the various tone holes? I've heard of rolled and straight, but I have no clue what any of it is.

Ok. The tone holes on your instrument are most likely straight, which means that they have a straight, thin edge. Some tone holes are rolled, and have a rounded, fat edge (found on vintage Conns, SML's, Coufs, modern keilwerths, etc). King and i think some other brands also had an idea for soldered on tone holes, which means the holes were cut and rather than drawing out the little lip thing, they soldered it on top. Kind of pointless, if you ask me, but I can't complain.

From an engineering point of view, it seems that rolled tone holes would increase pad life. Anyone have experience with that?
