I saw CMelodyMan's post on the jazz band songs everyone played last year, so I was wondering what everyone played in concert band. My favorites are
Symphonic Dance #3 (John Cliffton Williams)
First Suite in Eb (Gustav Holst)
Great Locomotive Chase (?? Concert Band played it)
Humoresque (Dvorzak)

Ones I've actually played:
- A Movement for Rosa, Mark Camphouse
- Dance of the Jesters, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky
- Rejouissance, James Curnow
- Cloudburst, Eric Whitacre
- Folk Dances, Dmitri Shostakovich
- Lincolnshire Posy, Percy Grainger
- Porgy and Bess, George Gershwin
- Hannaford Overture, J. Scott Irvine
- Incantation and Dance, John Barnes Chance
- Chorale and Shaker Dance, John P. Zdechlik
- Second Suite in F, Gustav Holst
- Cajun Folk Songs II, Frank Ticheli
Ones I've heard, but not played:
- An American Elegy, Frank Ticheli
- Blue Shades, Frank Ticheli
Recordings and more information of the above 3 pieces can be found here: http://manhattanbeachmusiconline....nhattan_beach_music/html/mp3.html - check them out! :D
I strongly suggest checking An American Elegy out. I think it's the most beautiful concert band piece I've ever heard. _________________ Thomas Hay

*red with envy* Wow, Steve, that must have been such a great experience! What instrument were you playing? Also, where and when was the premiere? _________________ Thomas Hay

The Great Locomotive chase is an awesome song. Has anyone played The Great Steamboat Race? It has the same feel as locomotive.
But my favorites would have to be
Blue Ridge Saga-James Swearingen
Festivo-Vaclav Nehybel
can't think of any others........ _________________ "Don't play the saxophone. Let it play you." - Charlie Parker |
