This has to be toughest thing about learning the instrument...coming from a sax/clarinet player.

I've heard several different examples which didn't work until my friend (who mind you is the least musical person around) said to me, "Bring your upper lip out over your bottom lip a bit and try to blow downwards"...well sure enough I got a somewhat better sound than what I had going before...but it's still not right.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone else play/double on the flute. I do! I have a gemeinhardt 2SP. It may seem like crap, but it has a great tone. Although I would prefer an open hole, offset G, B foot w/gizmo key, Gemeinhardt,Yamaha, or Armstrong would work, too. If any one else plays what kind of flute do you have?

tenorsaxman, are you having trouble logging in as a memeber? the reason I'm asking is because you keep posting as a guest, but you are a member.

I started off on flute in 5th grade and I play in jazz band. The best suggestion I have for playing is get a bottle (or glass jug) and play around with it until you can get abunch of different pitches out. I have a craptastic flute. My mom got it used in 5th grade (her 5th not mine) that makes the flute about 40-50 years old. It is an artley with offset G and closed holes. Your basic beginner flute. Meh oh well atleast I have a piccolo too! :D

well ok.... lets see. Rolling Eyes .. one thing that many people don't realize is that on flute you don't blow down in to the hole you blow across it. Mr. Green ...and DON"T I repeat don't form an emboucher! Colorful Smilie on flute it takes little mouth position... it is all about air support... from your diaphram. hope that helps. WTF If you have any questions just ask, you can Im or pm me any time.
have fun and good luck!!!! Very Happy
