Ummm... the immediate answer to this, or any question, would be yo' mama, but, in my very humble opinion... Sanborn or Desmond.

The automatic answer, for the majority of saxophonists would be Bird or Trane... but I don't dig them too much. I just got Bird with Strings, and it's supposed to be good.

Why? Sanborn, his tone rocks, and has super funky grooves...

Desmond, because I <3 his tone, and his solos just really do something for me.

Kenny G... Ha... that's a good one, man...

Marcel Mule, Eugene Rousseau, and Sigurd Rascher are good classical players.

Kenny G? Shocked Please tell me you are joking. I despise Kenny G.

Best jazz sax player is without a doubt Charlie Parker. One of the two or three "creators" of the bebop movement. Can any other sax player claim that? I think not.

Classical? I don't really listen to classical sax.

Buff,

Yes, I was joking. I like to listen to Kenny G, but I think there are better techincal players out there.

Rousseau, Rascher (pretty sure), Hemke, and Street (geek's teacher) are good classical sax players.

Sanborn, Desmond, Parker, Gordon, Aderly, Garret, and a few others are the best jazz players of this time period. Cool

This reminds me of a forum I found one time about greatest jazz sax players.

Bird
Trane
Stitt
Cannonball
Rollins
Desmond

Has anybody else heard of Ronnie Cuber? He plays bari, and played with the Mingus Big Band on one of their live recordings. If you get a chance, check out "Moanin'", or "Moanin' Mambo". They're the same piece, but they have different names.

I forgot Coltrane because I really don't like the music he makes...honestly, I give the man all the respect I can for doing what he did, but I don't like to listen to him...just a matter of preference Cool
