My band director is thinking about possibly buying a new bari this year to replace the old Bundy II. Naturally, he looked to me for advice, lol. I gave him some suggestions, Couf Superba, True Tone, any Yanagisawa, but I don't know if you can buy any of those for the price he's willing to spend, about $2000. Anyone have any suggestions for a good bari for under $2000?

Thanks,
David

Geez, have you gone and lost it? Shocked

Even a Yamaha 52 isn't even $2,000 (try like $3,000+) Shocked...I think yer screwed unless you can find a steal on a GOOD vintage bari. If it's not good, you might as well keep playin on the POS BundyII Laughing

You're going to have to spend AT LEAST $3k, or you're gonna end up with a crap-ola bari that your band director will never be happy with.

I just got a bari for around $2200. It was a used horn, but the company fixed it to almost new condition. And it's a pro level horn, which is even nicer.

A buddy of mine paid around $2,295 (including shipping which is free) from Kesslers Music. He's luvin' it, especially since we WAS paying $72 a month for a beater rental.

Gandalfe, is that you? I was wondering if you would make an appearence.

Anyway, I would support the Keesler horns as well. Never played one, but I hear good things, and it's hard to beat that price.

Of course, the eBay option is always there, especially for vintage instruments.

Hey Bariman, yes 'tis I. I try to keep my siglines consistent so that no one thinks there is any subterfuge going on.

eBay is okay, I've bought a great Couf tenor sax that way, if you buy into the fact that 9 outta 9 times you will have to take the vintage horn into the shop for, best case, a minor tuneup.

Can you tell us more about Kessler's, Gandalfe? I read your article on SOTW, it sounds like a great store, and a sax player's paradise!

The only think I can add to the article http://www.saxontheweb.net/Resources/KesslerInterview.html is that if you are ever in Las Vegas, it is a very nice, interesting place to visit.
