Good morning all
I am about to buy a new saxophone, and the 2 choices that I have narrowed it down to are the Yamaha 875 and the Keilwerth "Shadow" Tenor Saxophone....
Now, I am partial to Yahama's because I have mainly played them, and I fell in love with them....on the other hand, I have heard good things about Keilwerth and how they sound and handle (although I did read an article on the web regarding how they have problems with the tone holes)....
So which one do you prefer and why????
Which one is the better saxophone and why????
I pretty much have an idea of which one, but once I go in and play them, that will seal the deal....

Yes, you won't know which one is "better" until you play-test them. To pit one horn against the other is not really fair, because one variation of that horn can play better than the other, so there really is no 'better' horn. Keep that in mind when play testing _________________ JP

Both horns are supposed to be good. Trying them out should be fun. _________________ Sop, alto, tenor, and bari sax

Well, I went to Music & Arts Center and I tried out the SX90R "Shadow" and the Yamaha 875....
Here is my review of both horns:
Yamaha 875
Notes just leap out of the horn...the playablity was so easy...
Speed is remarkable
Easy to go from high to low on this horn
Has a very mellow and soft sound, very sultry....
Keilwerth SX90R "Shadow"
Lovely looking horn
Good speed
Very bright sounding horn
Took a little more effort to get the notes out of this horn
SO the winner is.....
The Yamaha 875!!!! .....I am going to get the one that has the black lacquer!!!! _________________ I am music, and music is me....

Thank you guys....
They had to send a request to the warehouse to request it. I still am trying to figure out what kind of soprano to purchase....any suggestions?
I will provide pics when I get it, and if I can, I will try and add sound clips _________________ I am music, and music is me....

If you like your 875 tenor then try out the Custom line of sopranos.
As I am a Selmer nut, try a Serie II or III...see whatcha think.
Keilwerth, Rampone and Cazzani, and Borgani (if you don't mind sticker shock) are also excellent brands. Good luck....lucky lil sumtin or other, being able to buy a tenor AND soprano in the same year _________________ JP

Don't overlook the other Yamaha sops. The 475 can be found very cheap on ebay, and is a great horn. Definitely try out the 675 and 875 also. You can't go wrong with Yamaha. _________________ Louis Scuderi

LOL....I hear you....I had to jump on it while I had the opportunity....
I tried the Selmer Series II Super Action....it was ok, nothing to write home about...I know this is going to shock you Selmer nuts, but I think it is an overpriced average horn....just MY opinion....LOL
I'm going to go with a Cannonball....
As much as I love my Yahama's, I was disappointed this Saturday when I played the 475....she didn't perform up to what I expected...I am a diehard Yahama fan, but that thing played 1 full note off!!!! ....maybe it was a fluke, I don't know, because Yahama's usually come ready to play. A "Musica" horn (if anyone knows anything about these, let me know) played better.... _________________ I am music, and music is me....

Wow...
Did you try any other 475 or just that one? You should try more than one of every horn in case one plays better than the other (which is common btw) _________________ JP

Yeah, a lot of horns come from the factory completely out of tune. So don't trust just one! _________________ Music IS Life
