Someone just linked this forum at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saxophone so I came. Smile

I'm 22 and have been playing (almost strictly alto) sax for about eleven years I guess. I'd classify myself as just at the fringe of being a professional. Need to bum some gigs off my guitarist friend and get into the game. I'm far from a master, but I attribute that to not playing much in the past couple years. :p

I've got a Selmer Mark VI alto from the 70s, a similar vintage metal Selmer C** mouthpiece which I use for jazz (Hemke reeds for a while now), and a Selmer S80 I use every now and then for nonjazzy things (Vandoren reeds). I love my sax, but lately I've been thinking about going down to a big music store nearby and trying out a bunch of new ones and see if I like any of them similarly. If I can find one as good as my current, I'd like to have a new one to add scratches to all by myself. Have my eyes on a Yanagisawa. Actually I have designs (verb) to make my own model, but that would obviously take a while.

My favorite saxophonist is Paul Desmond, followed fairly closely by Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Sonny Rollins, Sonny Stitt...to name some obvious ones. Smile

If you're not too picky, here are a couple recordings my good friend Taylor (guitarist) and I made in 2001 with the help of a family friend and his bassist and drummer. My playing is a little trite, but not too horrible:

I do live in Florida (born & raised), but in Gainesville, not Tampa.

So what does he win? Mr. Green

Very nice licks in those sound bites. What did you use to record them?

And thanks for sharing!

The recognition and self-satisfaction that comes with being the 100th member, of course. Very Happy

IIRC, the mic setup for me was a rather old Sennheiser - and it was some DAT recorder, don't remember. :p
