what are some things that i should do to keep my sax in good working condition?

A thorough cleaning after use would be a god place to start.

Yes, a thorough cleaning everytime you play, meaning sawbbing, cleaning the neck, and always putting cork grease on your sax's neck before putting on the mpc. Also oil every moving part once a month, and send it for a check up with your repair tech once every year.

If you polish it every couple of uses as well, this will prevent too much fuzz and gunk build up in the action as well as the spaces between rods, keys, etc etc

Polish it with just a cloth, or with special polish too?

I have a special cloth that has microfibers to polish and usually doesn't leave scratches, but on a non-engraved sax, polish and a t-shirt will work just as good. I'm pretty sure polish will get into the engraving and never come out? Shocked

For polishing, I use Pledge.. lemon wax. It contains sillica, which cleans and protects lacquer. It works very well, makes your horn beautiful, and doesn't affect my engraving.
