I assume that there are more modern composers of classical music, I mean, new stuff has to be made.
Who are big modern classical composers? Thanks for any info!
Oh PS...for those of you who might know Robert Smith, I think he would count as one

Modern? Like 20th century?
Gustav Holst.
Early 20th century composer. Check out his suite called The Planets -- brilliant.
I'm sure there are quite a few classical composers nowadays, but I am not very active in the classical community. _________________ Audio clips in link below-

There are a ton of "big modern classical composers." Some of my favorite Americans in that category would have to be David Diamond, Eric Ewazen (check out his concerto for tenor saxophone and orchestra--check out James Houlik's recording), Philip Glass, Aaron Copland, and Alan Hovhaness (a fellow Washingtonian). My mom actually knew Hovhaness, as she used to study voice with his wife. Of course, there are countless others, and that's without even leaving America. As for internationl composers, I don't even know where to begin, but off the top of my head, you might like Darius Milhaud (wrote Scaramouhe for alto sax--very cool--as well as two string quartets that can be played at the same time as an octet!!!) and Heitor Villa-Lobos (wrote a Fantasia for soprano, often performed on tenor). As you probably know, most classical saxophone music is from the 20th century. _________________ My sound clips. |

| What about Jean Francaix? I played his cinq danses exotiques, and it's awesome. You should see the score - it's abosolutely crazy! I love it though. |
