Have you bought the soprano yet? If it's in the budget, I'd suggest trying the YSS-875 Custom before you buy. The 475 is 2 steps below the 875 in Yamaha's line (sorry, you probably know that already) and it plays like it's 20 steps above!

This horn speaks with very little resistance, has a nice centered but dark tone in the lower octave (which I LOVE!) and is centered but brighter as you go above D2. It's tame enough at C3 to almost be called "sweet" with good jazz reeds. I use an S80 D mpc.

Check one out...no, check 3 or 4 out before you buy. Yamaha is known for consistency in manufacture, but one might be "better" for your playing style!
