Having read up on this forum I've decided to go for either the YAS-23 as many have said it's a good sax to learn on. I have also considered a YAS-275 but it may be a bit too pricey for me.

My query is; how much I should pay for either of these used and what in particular should I look for when buying a used sax?

Thanks in advance, rs_azzuri Smile

Eh...I can take a shot in the dark on this one.

If the sax you're going for is in near-mint condition, lacquer at 90% or above, no dents, re-solders, or severe scratches, I would ask no more than $1,600 for it. Then of course, as condition status decreases, so does price.

Have fun...and good luck. Cool

I don't know Yamaha's numbers, but if it's a pro sax in near-mint condition, then $2000-$3000 give or take wouldn't necessarily be unfair - price generally goes up if it's vintage.

If it's a student horn, best not pay more than $1000.

Reisio,

The 275 is sort of like the 475 from what I understand; that's why I had the price up a little higher. Cool

here in the UK you can get a new YAS-275 for just over the equivalent of $1000 - would it be worth going for just a new one at that price?

You actually wouldn't find the 275 there...the 275 is the European model (maybe it has A=444 instead of A=440) Razz Cool

I know Yamaha 23 prices very well and you can get one in great shape for $300.00 or less.
A step up, Yamaha 52 is $800.00 - $1,000.00 the YAS 275 is a Europe type and I see them at times on E-Bay for about a thousand dollars.

For the money.. I like the YAS23 and YAS 52. You can get a great deal on either of these horns,

I am not a big fan of E-Bay but it can sure give you up to date market prices on any item.
