Does anyone know of any device that can help a sax player who's lost about half his left thumb?
I'm hoping I can find soem sort of extension that can let me play somewhat normally.
Thanks for any help.

One thing you could try. Keep in mind i don't know how much mobility you lost, and how much of the thumb you lost. Take a leather glove, cut it so that it only covers your index finger and thumb, then fill the thumb until you thumb touches it (fill it with cotton or something) and maybe that will give you enough to force to press down on the octave key.
Like i said i don't know the extent of your wound. |

some sort of horizontal cross bar (flat plate) attached to the sax's left thumb pad? _________________ "Cease this infernal tootling!" Montgomery Burns. |

How about having someone modify the octave key by placing it on the left side of the thumb pad and rock your thumb back instead of forward? It would be difficult to learn that new trick but anything is possible with practice. I found that out learning to play the bassoon. _________________ Greg Smith
