Hi,
I'm a sax player from Turkey.
I'll be giving a concert in a few months in concervatory.
I want to get your ideas about the concert.
If you were the audience which pieces,concertos,sonatas.... would you like to hear?

Creston Sonata (Paul Creston)
Concertino da Camera (Frances Ibert)
Scaramouche
Pictures at an Exhibition (Mussorgsky)
Rondo in D (Mozart)

I assume since this is a conservatory, the pieces have to be classical/legit? If so, there are my ideas. If it can be more, like jazz oriented, give a holler and I will post my ideas on those as well Smile

Easy but they are full of feelings.

The Old Castle is actually part of the Pictures at an Exhibiton; it's in seven movements I believe and The Old Castle is only part of the whole song. Fantasia is an outstanding piece, I watched a video of it being done by Otis Murphy; nuts! Did you get Sicilienne and Vocalise from Solos for the Alto Saxophone Player by Larry Teal? That's where I got Pictures at an Exhibition from (well, The Old Castle) but if you were really trying to put on a show I would do all seven (or whatever) movements instead of just one if you're going to do that period.

Yes, less techincal stuff but more fun to play. The Creston, Ibert, and Scaramouche are considerably harder.

I play soprano saxophone.
I was at concervatory but as a trumpet student.
I've been playing sax more than 1,5 year.
There is no sax teaching in concervatories in Turkey. Crying or Very sad

If there was I'd like to have a teacher's idea.

You've only been playing for one and a half years? Wow, forget the Creston, Ibert, or Scaramouche at this point...lol. Maybe even forget the Rondo in D recommendation I gave you too.

No way,

I can handle these pieces...
I had a very good music education and I know what I'm talking about.
I will only practice them as anyone will and I don't think that I need to play sax longer to play these pieces beautifully.
I'll play them just as I play them with trumpet.
Just a little finger practising needed.

I replied to your PM s.s. girl; I'm sure you'll understand my reasoning for saying that these pieces are too far out of your bounds. In all seriousness, even though you are a well educated trumpet player, trumpet; sax, not equal. Have you even looked at these pieces to say that you can handle them? If you can, I give you a round of applause because even I as a near pro player going into college cannot do the first movement of the Creston that smooth yet.

The altissimo in the Ibert presents challenged for anyone, let alone someone who has played for only a year and a half. I'm not saying it's not possible that you could play it, only that it's highly unlikely!
