I`ve played string instruments for 12 years but have been endeavouring to play a sax for about a year. Problem is my teacher is saying I need to use a metronome in my practicing. I`m sure this is a good idea to help on timing but I`m finding it so difficult to concentrate on the note selection and good tone production etc. with this thing going "clack , clack" all the time. I have in past been just using my foot (or toe). Does anyone else find the metronome a pain in the... no, an annoying intrusion? Should I persist or are there other/better ways to help with timing?
