Here's list of some great little known sax players that you should listen to if you ever get the chance:

Perico Sambeat
Jeff Coffin
Lenny Pickett
Jacques Johnson
Mindy Abare

I'll post of some more when I can think of them

I'd like to add Charlie Rouse, a great tenor player. He was so painfully under rated. Crying or Very sad Barney Willen was a great player, too.

I've heard Lenny Pickett. He is awsome, he's the lead sax player of the Saturday Night Live band (though I'm sure you already knew that). He plays a lot of high altissimo stuff.

For an up and comer, look at Rudresh Mahanthappa. And I second Charlie Rouse.

I think Tab Smith and Pete Brown were buried treasures. Tab Smith had a strong Johnny Hodges influenced sound, and he played a lot of the early R&B stuff of the early 50's. Pete Brown was the model for Paul Desmond's sound, and it was known that Paul Desmond could accurately play all of Pete Brown's solos.
