I've been trying to get a little avatar thingy going for the sidebar of my comments, but haven't managed to get a picture to get as small as 12k. Any tips on reducing file size on small jpegs- the last few times I've tried to squash down an image, the pixel size has got so big it renders the whole thing unusable. How are you folks doing it?

Try converting it to PNG, then shrinking, then saving with indexed colors.

I use an iMac computer. I brought the image into an Appleworks document, resized it and saved it as a jpeg image.
